3 questions for… Céline Vallaude, UTAC Expertise Director and new President of Euro NCAP

Hello Céline, can you tell us about your career?

Hello! I am a general engineer initially specialized in fluid mechanics. I joined UTAC in 2001 as an emissions test engineer. I then progressed within the same laboratory until becoming its director. Then I created the expertise department within the UTAC Group, to bring together all the technical experts present in our company, in various fields such as passive/active safety, electrification, tires, emissions, etc. This team of experts participates in particular in international working groups that shape and update automotive regulations.

Why become President of Euro NCAP?

I started working with Euro NCAP in 2017, when Green NCAP was launched, dedicated to environmental testing, and I sit on the Euro NCAP board of directors via a delegation from the French Ministry of Transport, a member of the association. For over 25 years, Euro NCAP has played a central role in the implementation of safety systems in new vehicles sold in Europe, so I am very proud to take over its presidency. UTAC has always been very active on the subject of road safety and I believe that there is a real interest in participating in its continued improvement.

What are the upcoming projects for Euro NCAP?

Euro NCAP’s leadership can be attributed to its ability to continually update its requirements, encouraging the industry to develop increasingly safe systems. My objective is of course to ensure that Euro NCAP maintains this leadership by maintaining its level of expertise to continue to develop its various test programmes within the framework of an efficient economic model, whilst preserving the quality and independence of its assessment.
