New versions for Electro Magentic Compatibility standards, UTAC at the forefront

Between 7th and 11th of October, the international meeting of ISO/TC22/SC32/WG3 (vehicle EMC standardisation working group) took place in Budapest.

51 experts from China, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, UK and US had efficient and productive exchanges during those 5 days.

They reviewed four standards and one technical report projects under the convenorship of UTAC senior expert Rémy Perrot. They also confirmed that there is a need for creating a Technical Report providing guidance for testing the ADAS/ADS functions in EMC rooms.

Here are the main items agreed by the experts during the meeting:

For ISO 11451-1 and ISO 11452-1 (generalities about immunity tests on vehicle or vehicle components) which will go to FDIS ballot (last editorial review before publication):

  • Confirm the use of modulated signals in line with future UNECE R10.07
    • Update the informative annex on broadband modulation testing;

For ISO 11451-2 (radiated immunity for vehicles) which will go to FDIS ballot:

      • Update the lateral and rear illumination requirements;
      • Update schematics setup of large vehicle informative annex;
      • Precise the field uniformity measurement;

For ISO 11452-8 (immunity to magnetic field for component) which will be sent in DIS ballot (technical review of standard update maturity):

    • Confirm the possibility to use self-constructed radiated loop;
    • Extend the frequency range up to 400 kHz;

For TR 17716 (V2X [Vehicle to everything : generic in automotive industry] and immunity testing) which will go to direct publication:

    • Confirmation that the goal of the test is not to test the robustness of the over the air communication;
    • Confirmation that the goal of the report is not to test each and every function, but to test the most relevant ones.

Through the participation to this meeting, UTAC is preparing itself to propose services including the new standard version of those documents knowing how and why applying them. Our EMC team can help you in deploying these documents in your specification or validation plan.
