New Battery Regulation

New Battery Regulations

New Battery Regulation has been published

The New Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 has been published on July 28th, 2023, and repeals Directive 2006/66/EC.
This Regulation introduces new requirements in terms of sustainability, safety, and information for placing on the market or putting into service all types of batteries, from the general use portable batteries to industrial ones, including batteries for all kinds of electrified vehicles.
Applicable from the February 18th, 2024, this Regulation requires improvements in various aspects, such as carbon footprint, active materials recovery, performance, durability, removability, replaceability, waste battery collection, recycling efficiency, and due diligence across the supply chain. To enhance transparency, a battery passport accessible via a QR code on each battery will provide this information to the public.
UTAC is currently in the process of being notified as a Conformity Assessment Body on carbon footprint and recyclability topics by the French authority.
