The World Sustainable Transport Day calls for rethinking how we move to address climate challenges. This global day raises awareness about the importance of adopting sustainable mobility solutions and highlights initiatives paving the way for a safer, more efficient and greener future. Meet two colleagues sharing their contributions to sustainable transport at UTAC.
Tony Perkins, Chief Engineer (Propulsion) & Hydrogen Technical Programme Manager – Millbrook
- How does your role contribute to sustainable transport?
A diverse range of propulsion technologies hold significant potential to reduce environmental impact from transport. At UTAC, we leverage our expertise and state-of-the-art laboratories to drive advancements in powertrains. By providing reliable, actionable test data for engine, powertrain, and fuel efficiency improvements, we are actively addressing the critical environmental challenges of our time.
- What does sustainable transport mean to you?
Sustainable transport paves the way for a cleaner future for everyone. By decarbonising and minimising air pollution, we can ensure that our mobility needs are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
Safwen Ncibi, Test Project Manager (Emission, Energy and Acoustics) – Linas-Montlhéry
- How does your role contribute to sustainable transport?
My contribution to sustainable transport is to assess the environmental impact of vehicles by carrying out detailed and transparent Green NCAP tests. These tests measure pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the energy efficiency of vehicles, whether on a test bench or in real-world conditions. These assessments enable consumers to make more responsible choices and encourage the automotive industry to innovate towards cleaner solutions and, as a result, raise awareness of the role of vehicles in the fight against climate change, promoting a transition to greener mobility.
- What does sustainable transport mean to you?
For me, sustainable transport is about reducing the environmental impact of the way we travel. This involves adopting low-emission vehicles, promoting active modes of transport such as walking and cycling, and using cleaner energy sources. The ultimate goal is to establish a transport system that preserves the health of the planet while ensuring accessible mobility for all.
