Job Description
The Test Engineer is responsible for operating and supporting dynamometer test cells for propulsion and driveline systems from initial setup to test report completion. This includes working with dynamometer control software to integrate customer test requests, performing test equipment calibrations, and executing troubleshooting efforts on test cell equipment. This role requires the ability to successfully manage tasks and assignments in multiple areas. Initiative and ownership of responsibilities are critical to the success of this individual.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Integrating customer test requests into our in-house developed dynamometer control software which includes configuring channel setups and writing automated test scripts among many other items
Translating documents and conversations from customers to fully functional dynamometer test
Troubleshooting of testing systems and customer product issues
Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to create concepts and deliverables used to efficiently complete customer test requests and internal projects
Setting up small scale testing equipment including analog sensors, electrical instruments, cooling systems, and other customer driven requirements
Electrical wiring of internal and external sensors to our data acquisition system and our industrial drive systems
Calibrating testing equipment such as torque meters, pressure sensors, and flow meters
Writing test reports for customers based on test results
Test engineers will not be responsible for any opinions or interpretations of our customer data
Assist in supporting the UTAC culture and values (Integrity, Expertise, and Innovation)
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Skill Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably mechanical or electrical), or related education and experience required
Practical experience and involvement with projects
Working knowledge of automotive propulsion and driveline systems
Fluency in the English language is required
Strong problem solving, strategic thinking and analytical skills required
Ability to function within a team, working cooperatively toward team and individual goals
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
Strong attention to detail required
Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job
Accept instructions and tasks in a positive manner, treating all co-workers with dignity and respect
Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications and the ability to become proficient in any systems that we use (Concur, Kronos, etc.)
A valid driver’s license required for travel to customer sites, picking up parts, etc.
Consistently adhere to, and support all UTAC policies, procedures, and safety regulations
Exceptional work ethic and positive attitude required
Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area
Self-starter, who can multi-task and possess strong communication skills
Physical Requirements:
Exposure to industry accepted chemicals, and noise
Flexibility to support test activity at off-site locations and outside of traditional working hours
Regularly required to stand, reach, bend and move about the facility
Able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and 75 lbs. assisted
Able to stand on feet for up to 8 hours
Able to lift and/or move materials as needed in the performance of assigned duties
Requirements include, but are not limited to stand, walk, sit, twist, bend, lift, see, speak, hear
