European pollution regulations: the first Euro 7 technical requirements have been published!

The first package of Euro 7 implementing regulations was officially published at the beginning of September. It marks a crucial step in the European strategy to reduce polluting emissions from light road vehicles.

Implementing Regulations (EU) 2025/1706 and 2025/1707 introduce the requirements of the Euro 7-TEMP stage:

  • On-board emissions monitoring, a major step forward in real-world testing;
  • More restrictive exhaust emission limits (consideration of particles down to 10 nm) and evaporative emissions;
  • Enhanced protection against tampering with the anti-pollution system.

Before the new Euro 7 regulatory framework comes into force in full in November 2026, new requirements are being introduced regarding:

  • Non-exhaust emissions, including particles from braking and tire abrasion;
  • Battery durability for electrified vehicles;
  • Low-temperature range for electric vehicles.

UTAC is already supporting mobility stakeholders in preparing for this transition, which will be the last major regulatory milestone before the ban on the sale of new internal combustion vehicles announced for 2035.

UTAC expertise at the service of regulations

A key player in the certification and assessment of vehicle environmental performance, UTAC has been involved since 2019 in the AGVES (Advisory Group on Vehicle Emission Standards) expert group established by the European Commission. This contribution helps ensure a realistic level of requirements, in favor of cleaner, safer, and sustainable mobility.
