Job Description
The Technical Sales Support Engineer serves as the technical liaison for the Commercial team, collaborating closely with operations, technical staff, and customers on a daily basis. This position is responsible for project costing and the preparation of quotations within the Operations division for Service and Test solutions. The engineer also provides thorough quote-writing support to the Sales Team for all opportunities related to drives, motors, battery simulators, and engineering projects. Furthermore, the role involves leading the development of complex proposals for new customer opportunities that have not previously been undertaken.
A high degree of technical expertise and field experience is essential, along with the ability to articulate technical content in a clear, concise, and professional manner. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong customer focus, responsiveness, attention to detail, and accuracy, leveraging their experience and knowledge to effectively support the sales team. Primary responsibilities include managing all engineering and technical aspects of opportunities generated by the Sales team. Success in this role requires effective multitasking and coordination across various engineering disciplines, alongside initiative and ownership of assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical qualification of leads and sales opportunities, including interpretation of customer requirements (electrical, mechanical, and procedural)
Collation and organization of technical information for bids and consultative customer guidance to determine optimum test solutions
Provide support to Sales organization, including attending customer meetings and providing commercial/technical support to Operational Project Managers
Primary responsibility is preparation, management, and approval of competitive technical quotations, proposals, and Statements of Work (SOW)
Providing commercial support to the Operational Project Manager
Support business development, revenue forecast, and continuous improvement of engineering and operational processes
Act in accordance with company values (Integrity, Expertise, Innovation), policies, procedures, and safety regulations
Organize and maintain a personal work area, manage own priorities, and function effectively as part of a team
Use and become proficient in all required business and engineering tools, including Microsoft Office
Provide outstanding customer service, maintain high attention to detail, and proactively seek solutions to technical and commercial challenges
Support UTAC’s culture, values, and operational excellence in every aspect of the role
Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Skill Requirements:
Preferred bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering discipline and at least three years of related experience
Experience with sales/customer engagement and a customer service mindset
Experience with mechanical, electrical, and facility builds
Ability to pair Drives and electric motors and battery simulators-invertors and converters and transformers
IO and data acquisition experience
Skills managing resource allocations including floorspace and manpower
Experience in these fields is a plus:
Driveline controls strategies
Experience in facility infrastructure-power, air, water, fuel requirements
Resource allocations-Manpower and floorspace
CAD experience
AC motor and drive operation
Ability to read, understand, and create edits to mechanical and electrical prints is required
Strong analytical, organizational, strategic thinking, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills required
Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively without supervision
Strong attention to detail, work ethic, and a positive, collaborative attitude
Fluency in English is required
Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications and the ability to become proficient in any organizational systems that we use (Concur, Kronos, etc.)
Ability to learn other business systems (e.g. CAD)
Able to function as part of a team, with members of varying job levels, and work cooperatively toward team goals
Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job
Accept instructions and tasks in a positive manner, treating all co-workers with dignity and respect
Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for traveling between multiple work sites as needed
Hybrid work schedule - Required on-site work as needed, eligible for UTAC’s Remote Work Policy after 9 months probationary period
Consistently adhere to, and support all UTAC policies, procedures, and safety regulations
Physical Requirements:
Exposure to industry accepted chemicals and noise
Regularly required to stand, reach, bend and move about the facility
Able to lift and/or move materials as needed in the performance of assigned duties
Requirements include, but are not limited to stand, walk, sit, twist, bend, lift, see, speak, hear
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
