UTAC Special Vehicles Celebrates the Production of its 1000th Armoured Vehicle

UTAC Special Vehicles is proud to announce the production of its 1000th armoured vehicle, a major milestone reflecting more than ten years of engineering expertise, innovation, and dedication in the field of protected mobility.

A Milestone Built on More Than a Decade of Expertise

UTAC Special Vehicles is proud to announce the production of its 1000th armoured vehicle, a major milestone reflecting more than ten years of engineering expertise, innovation, and dedication in the field of protected mobility.

The Beginning of the Journey

The story began in 2012 with an enquiry from Vauxhall Special Vehicles. This opportunity marked the creation of the department that would later become known as the “Armoured Vehicles”.

The first platform developed was based on the Vauxhall Insignia. This project laid the foundations for UTAC’s expertise in integrating advanced ballistic and blast protection technologies into production vehicles.

Expanding Capabilities with Škoda UK

Following the transition away from GM ownership, UTAC Special Vehicles had the opportunity to collaborate with Volkswagen Group and Škoda UK on new protected vehicle programmes.

The first of these was developed on the Škoda Superb platform. This represented a significant technological milestone for the business, as the first vehicle fully certified for both blast and ballistic protection and the first to feature hot-formed armour technology.

Building on this success, UTAC Special Vehicles later developed the Škoda Kodiaq platform, further expanding the company’s capabilities in delivering highly protected mobility solutions.

Continuing Innovation with Toyota Land Cruiser

In 2021, following the launch of the new Toyota Land Cruiser LC300, UTAC Special Vehicles developed its next civilian armoured vehicle product, as this is one of the world’s most recognised platforms for armouring, durability and reliability globally.

This programme reinforced UTAC’s commitment to combining advanced protection systems with modern vehicle engineering and rigorious automotive testing at the UTAC Millbrook Proving Ground.

Specialist Low-Volume Vehicles

Alongside its major production programmes, UTAC Special Vehicles has also designed and produced a number of highly specialised low-volume armoured vehicles, tailored to unique operational and customer requirements.

These bespoke projects demonstrate the flexibility and technical expertise of the team across a wide range of platforms and applications.

Looking Ahead

Reaching the milestone of 1000 armoured vehicles produced is not only a reflection of UTAC Special Vehicles’ technical expertise, but also the result of the dedication of its staff, partners, and customers.
