UTAC Reaches a New Milestone in the Evaluation of AI-Powered Vehicles

UTAC continues its commitment to innovation and the safety of future mobility solutions with the upcoming defense of Céline Serbouh’s CIFRE PhD thesis, conducted in partnership with the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) in Paris.

UTAC continues its commitment to innovation and the safety of future mobility solutions with the upcoming defense of Céline Serbouh’s CIFRE PhD thesis, conducted in partnership with the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) in Paris. Carried out within CNAM’s CEDRIC laboratory and UTAC’s Active Safety Expertise Department, this research builds on nearly seven years of work dedicated to the assessment and validation of vehicles integrating artificial intelligence technologies.

Understanding the Behavior of AI-Powered Vehicles

Since 2019, UTAC has been conducting several research projects to anticipate the arrival of autonomous and intelligent systems. The objective is to develop methods that improve understanding of the behavior of these vehicles, which are often perceived as “black boxes.”

The work carried out as part of this thesis has led to the development of innovative approaches aimed at making these systems more explainable. Through predictive modeling, it is now possible to identify the factors influencing vehicle decisions and to gain deeper insights into how vehicles react in different driving situations.

Optimizing Testing Through Artificial Intelligence

One of the key outcomes of this research is the optimization of testing campaigns through the identification of the most relevant scenarios, particularly critical situations.

Using data collected from real-world testing, generative AI techniques have been employed to create representative virtual scenarios, enabling a broader exploration of use cases while reducing evaluation costs and timelines.

The models developed also help better understand, reproduce, and anticipate the behavior of intelligent systems in order to assess their performance and limitations.

A New Service Offering to Support Emerging Mobility Solutions

This research has led to the creation of a new UTAC service offering: “Evaluation Testing and Predictive Modeling of vehicles equipped with AI.”

This service supports manufacturers throughout the development and validation of autonomous and intelligent systems, from the initial scoping phase through to safety analysis.

With this innovative offering, UTAC further strengthens its expertise in supporting the growth of robotaxis, intelligent vehicles, and next-generation autonomous mobility solutions, as well as technologies such as autonomous shuttles, delivery robots, drones, and mobile robots.
